It’s wonderful to watch their musical journey in almost real-time, who can, with enough Red Bull, write, record and release a track in a single day.

Following in the footsteps of collectives like BROCKHAMPTON, Drain Gang and PC Music, these zoomers thrive in the era of digital lockdown collaboration. Glaive is a member of the slowsilver03 collective, part of a highly supportive, highly prolific generation of lo-fi hip-hop makers. Back in those unsigned days, Glaive released a formidable string of singles, the best of which can be found on Spotify. If you’d gotten to Glaive between the beginning and end of his independent recording career, March and October of 2020, maybe you could have signed the young rapper, but too late! Interscope Records got him first. The only thing i can see glaive improving on is his song structure, a few cuts here feel like they hit their climaxes too early and could be given a bit more time to develop into fully fledged songs - i'm not sure if there are any bridges at all and it could use some, but this is just a nitpick and doesn't really detract from the record at all. all 7 tracks have been stuck in my head for hours at some point i can't sing enough praise about how catchy this whole thing is. it's the fast pace of the production that keeps you hooked and interested, there are so many intricate little touches here and although there's a different producer on every song here, the EP feels cohesive and personal, even.Īnd GOD, this guy can write a hook. It's also easy to love, with the erratic hyperpop tendencies of songs like astrid and pissed, and the almost midwest-y noodles of touché and aforementioned astrid (my personal favourite here).
it's simple - there's nothing past the surface level, glaive wears his heart on his sleeve with very clear and obvious Ben Folds-as-a-zoomer-esque lyrics, and Juice WRLD levels of whiny vocal delivery. Stupid pop songs for stupid teenagers this music is very easy to hate, and i can understand why many people have dismissed it.
